Mauritania. Restricciones de Internet en plenas protestas por resultados electorales.
En la República Islámica de Mauritania, los periodos electorales están fuertemente marcados por restricciones y hasta cortes totales de la conexión a Internet, una medida que ha sido implementada tras manifestaciones en el país.
La conexión a Internet en Mauritania se distribuye a través de tres redes principales: Mauritel, Chinguitel y Mattel. El país contaba con más de 2,19 millones de abonados de Internet al inicio de 2024. Sin embargo, durante estos periodos críticos, solo los abonados de estas tres redes sufren la restricción de acceso a Internet. Aunque el Internet móvil está cortado, la conexión inalámbrica sigue funcionando en todo el territorio.
Desde abril de 2018 hasta marzo de 2023, se han reportado seis cortes importantes de Internet en Mauritania, atribuidos a razones técnicas, de seguridad, políticas e incluso educativas. El 2 de julio de 2024, Internet móvil fue desconectado como respuesta a manifestaciones aisladas.

In the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, election periods are heavily marked by restrictions and even total Internet connection cuts, a measure that has been implemented following demonstrations in the country.
Internet connectivity in Mauritania is distributed through three main networks: Mauritel, Chinguitel and Mattel. The country had more than 2.19 million internet subscribers at the beginning of 2024. However, during these critical periods, only subscribers of these three networks suffer from restricted internet access. Although mobile internet is cut off, wireless connectivity continues to operate throughout the territory.
From April 2018 to March 2023, six major internet outages have been reported in Mauritania, attributed to technical, security, political and even educational reasons. On 2 July 2024, mobile internet was disconnected in response to isolated demonstrations.
