Ukraine closes airspace
The Ukrainian airspace and parts of Russian airspace have been closed for commercial aviation. European Union Safety Agency (EASA) discourages using Ukrainian airspace until at least 2 March. EASA has reminded air operators that this is now an active conflict zone.
Under these circumstances, the aforementioned airspace and critical infrastructure, including airports, are exposed to military activities which result in safety risks for civil aircraft. In particular, there is a risk of both intentional targeting and misidentification of civil aircraft.
The presence and possible use of a wide range of ground and airborne warfare systems poses a HIGH risk for civil flights operating at all altitudes and flight levels.
Ukraine has announced a nationwide state of emergency from 24 February, which will last a minimum of 30 days. Additional measures may be introduced with little notice. Measures and restrictions will vary from region to region. Increased documentation checks on people and vehicles, transport restrictions and increased security measures for public buildings and infrastructure are likely to happen across the country. Other measures could include additional border controls, restrictions on large public events, curfews, restrictions on telephones, internet and broadcasting, and evacuations of certain areas.
If you can’t leave Ukraine, shelter in place, until you judge it’s safe to depart. The security situation is volatile and deteriorating. Following the advice of Ukrainian authorities.
