Iceland. Volcano erupts near capital Reykjavik
A volcano erupted in Iceland near the capital Reykjavik, the Icelandic Meteorological Office (IMO) confirmed as live pictures on local media showed lava spewing from a fissure in the ground.
The eruption was about 40km from Reykjavik, near the site of the Mount Fagradalsfjall volcano which erupted for six months from March to September 2021. No airline flights were currently affected, Iceland’s national airport authority told AFP.
Due to the risk of falling boulders, avoid the region around the eruption site and locations adjacent to mountains with steep slopes on the Reykjanes peninsula. Take the guidance of the local authorities.
We recommend staying informed of the evolution of the eruption and reconfirming with airlines about possible delays and impacts.
