Germany. Strikes by security staff at airports in the north of the country.

A strike has been called for today at Germany’s northern airports and significant delays and cancellations are expected. At Hamburg, Hannover and Berlin-Brandenburg airports, all-day strikes began overnight yesterday.
The Verdi union has called on employees at Bremen airport to stop work. The strikes are also likely to have an impact elsewhere.

In Berlin alone, around 200 departures have been cancelled. According to the airport, some 27,000 passengers are affected. The airport has confirmed that around a third of the approximately 200 planned landings have failed.

At Hamburg airport, the strike began yesterday evening. By Monday, according to the airport, all 123 originally planned take-offs have been cancelled and also at least 50 of the 121 originally planned landings have failed.

Airports are advising travellers to check with their airline about flight status and to anticipate arrival at their destination due to longer queues for passengers.
