Greece. (Europe) Greek air traffic controllers to strike on 16 March
- Greece’s air traffic controllers announced that they will join the 24-hour strike on Thursday, March 16. 2023. According to an announcement by their union EEEKE the strike begins at 00:01 Thursday and ends at 24:00 on the same day.
All flights will be halted between 12:01 a.m. and midnight local time (1001 GMT – 2200 GMT) on March 16 and only overflights, emergency and search-and-rescue flights will take place,
Aegean Airlines AGNr.AT and Olympic Air said they were forced to cancel all domestic and international flights on the day. Hundreds of flights are expected to be affected across the country’s approximately 40 airports.
Contact airlines to confirm flight status if booked to fly via Italian airports Feb. 19. Allow extra time for check-in and baggage clearance, particularly at MXP. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Arrive at the airport early to prevent your seat being allocated to a standby passenger. - Greece ‘s trains to restart operation gradually as of March 22
Greek trains will restart operations gradually as of March 22, 2023. Train operations will begin with the suburban railroad lines (Proastiakos) between Piraeus, Athens, and the International Airport, the freight trains between Athens and Thessaloniki, and specific local lines in Greece such as the Athens-Halkida line. The Athens-Thessaloniki Intercity passenger line – where the train collision occurred on February 28 that cost the lives of 57 people – will restart operating on April 1.
