The expansion of ash from the Sangay volcano forced the cancellation and delay of several flights in Ecuador
The eruption is located about 300 kilometers from Guayaquil, the country’s second largest city. So far, there are four provinces affected by the ash emission caused by the explosions.
Several flights were canceled or delayed at the Guayaquil airport
The greatest impact of the air operation in the second largest city in Ecuador occurred during the early hours, with arrivals canceled from Santiago de Chile, Miami (United States) and Quito, and departures also canceled to Miami and Quito.
Furthermore, so far there have been delays for the departure of two flights to Panama City and another two to Bogotá, according to information provided by the company Tagsa , operator of the José Joaquín de Olmedo airport in Guayaquil.
The ash cloud reached about 2 kilometers high above the crater and the wind spread it along the southern Ecuadorian provinces of Chimborazo, Cañar, Azuay and Guayas.
The Sangay, 5,230 meters high, it is located in the so-called Cordillera Real, a branch of the Andes in the Amazon province of Morona Santiago, and is part of the fifty volcanoes that Ecuador has.
