France. Major strike day at SNCF and RATP
The General Confederation of Labor (CGT) is planning to hold a national public sector strike on Tuesday, October 18. Public transportation services in cities throughout France as well ferry services will be affected. In transport, the call of the CGT-RATP raises fears of a disruption of traffic in the metros, buses, trains and trams.
The union says the action will concern both SNCF and the Paris transport operator RATP – although the CGT represents only a minority of train drivers, so the single movement is unlikely to cause much disruption unless other unions join in.
Increased demand for alternative available forms of transport are likely during strike day. Reconfirm all transportation services, particularly rail, through October 18. Exercise caution near protest locations.
